INTRODUCTION
The Holy Spirit gives different spiritual gifts to believers so that the body of Christ may be strengthened and God may be glorified. These gifts are expressions of grace, not rewards for superiority. No believer possesses every gift, and no genuine gift makes one person more valuable than another. Spiritual gifts must operate under the truth of Scripture, the lordship of Jesus Christ, the direction of the Holy Spirit, and the governing way of love.
WHAT SCRIPTURE SAYS ABOUT THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT
“Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.”
“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;”
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
DEFINITION IN EVERYDAY LANGUAGE
The gifts of the Spirit are Spirit-enabled abilities and expressions of grace given to believers for serving others and building up the church. Scripture describes gifts connected with speaking, serving, teaching, giving, leading, mercy, faith, healing, discernment, prophecy, tongues, interpretation, and other forms of ministry. Gifts differ, but they come from the same God and are meant for the common good. Every claimed spiritual expression should be tested by Scripture, its confession of Jesus Christ, its fruit, its order, and its effect upon others. Gifts should never be used to manipulate, exploit, shame, or place a person beyond accountability.
OFFER YOUR PERSONAL PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gifts You give through the Holy Spirit. Help me recognize what You have entrusted to me without pride, comparison, or fear. Teach me to use every ability in love, humility, truth, and order. Give me courage to serve rather than hide, and wisdom to remain accountable to Scripture and the body of Christ. Protect me from seeking attention or using spiritual language to control others. Let the gifts You provide strengthen believers, meet genuine needs, point people toward Jesus, and bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Dear Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit and for every gift You distribute according to Your wisdom. Thank You that each believer has value and that every grace-filled contribution can strengthen the body of Christ. I receive what You have entrusted to me without comparison, pride, or fear. Thank You for freeing me from the need to imitate another person’s gift or seek recognition for myself. By Your Spirit, develop my gifts, purify my motives, and teach me to serve faithfully. Let Scripture govern every spiritual expression, let love shape every action, and let Jesus Christ remain the center. I receive grace to remain humble, teachable, orderly, and accountable. Use my life to encourage others, meet real needs, build Your church, and display the character of Christ. All gifts come from You, and all glory belongs to You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
BRING IT INTO DAILY LIFE
Read 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 prayerfully. Write down the ways you are already able to encourage, teach, serve, give, lead, show mercy, pray, or strengthen others. Ask a mature Christian who knows you well what gifts they recognize. Choose one humble opportunity to serve this week, and evaluate its fruit without comparing yourself with anyone else.
