Allow the spiritual work happening within you to influence your choices, conduct, and relationships.
WHAT MAY BE HAPPENING WITHIN YOU
Your attention may be divided among provision, achievement, approval, comfort, family needs, health, and uncertain outcomes. Important concerns can quietly become the center around which every decision turns. Jesus invites you to place God’s kingdom and righteousness first so that every other responsibility finds its proper order.
SCRIPTURE FOUNDATION · KING JAMES VERSION
Matthew 6:31–34 KJV
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Romans 14:17 KJV
“For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
Colossians 3:1–2 KJV
“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
INNER TEACHING
Seeking first God’s kingdom means giving His reign, values, and righteousness the governing place in your life. It does not mean neglecting work, food, housing, health, family, planning, or practical responsibilities. In Matthew 6, Jesus acknowledges that the Father knows these needs. He corrects anxious seeking that makes provision the supreme pursuit and pushes trust and obedience to the margins. To seek the kingdom first is to ask, “What response honors God’s rule here?” before asking only what is easiest, most profitable, most admired, or most comfortable. Romans describes the kingdom through righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Kingdom priorities therefore shape how you earn, spend, speak, lead, serve, forgive, establish boundaries, and treat people who cannot benefit you. Righteousness chooses what is just and true. Peace seeks faithful reconciliation without hiding harm. Joy receives God’s goodness without depending upon perfect circumstances. Colossians calls you to set your affection above. This does not remove you from earthly life; it gives earthly choices an eternal reference point. Make plans, but hold them under Christ’s authority. Pursue provision, but refuse dishonesty or exploitation. Care for family, but do not use love to excuse control. Seek treatment, counsel, education, and opportunity while remembering that none of them becomes your identity or savior. Priorities become visible through calendars, budgets, attention, and repeated choices. Review where your best energy goes and what you protect when pressure rises. Do not turn “kingdom first” into religious overactivity that neglects sleep, health, relationships, or responsibilities. Rest and responsible care can belong to obedience. Neither use the phrase to impose your calling upon another person. Begin with your own stewardship. Choose one decision today in which truth, love, justice, peace, generosity, or obedience will take precedence over fear or self-interest. Your Father knows what you need. Seek His reign first, fulfill today’s responsibilities wisely, and entrust tomorrow to Him.
REFLECT BEFORE GOD
What concern or desire has become the center of my decisions? What would God’s righteousness, peace, love, and rule place first in this situation?

I seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. My heavenly Father knows what I need, so provision, approval, comfort, and tomorrow do not become my master. I set my affection upon Christ and let His reign order my work, resources, relationships, health, rest, and decisions. Through the Holy Spirit, I choose righteousness, peace, joy, truth, love, justice, and faithful responsibility. I attend wisely to today and entrust tomorrow to God. Every area of my life increasingly comes under the gracious lordship of Jesus Christ. Amen.
